McGregor has been issued a boxing license in the state of California, according to his management team.
“He got a license today and a federal ID,” California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster confirmed with MMAFighting.com. “He’s a California boxer now.”
This news comes just days after the UFC unceremoniously stripped McGregor of his 145-pound title, which he won less than 12 months ago, and named Jose Aldo the new champion. He remains the UFC lightweight champion.
Both McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have been teasing a super-fight via the media as of late, but no concrete plans have been made for them to box at this time, per sources.
I really don’t think this fight will ever happen even though it would be cool to see. And why won’t it happen? Because the only person that could gain anything career wise would be Conor McGregor. If he loses oh well, he’s not a boxer anyway. One quick bounce back fight in the UFC and all is well. Plus he just made 100 million dollars. However, if Floyd were to lose his entire legacy as a boxer would be turned upside down by a non-boxer. And finally, why would the UFC want this? Should Conor lose, the UFC’s perception would take a slight hit. The sport is really hot right now. Why mess with a good thing?
Short term everyone would financially benefit but long term 2 of the 3 parties involved would be risking too much.
So – Should this fight happen the shit talk would be at an all-time high. That would certainly favor Conor but both men aren’t short of words.
As for the match – I think it would go all 12 rounds and end in total domination on the score card by Floyd. I absolutely hate watching Floyd box as its all defense and small jabs. In saying that you can’t argue with his outcomes. Over a 12 round fight there is no way Conor could match him point for point. Conor’s only chance would be a lucky knockout, which is unlikely with Floyd’s ability to fight defensively.
In the end I think there’s a better chance Conor gets frustrated and suddenly kicks the shit out of Floyd’s jaw. Fuck would I pay per view for that to happen. It would be even more epic than an ear bite.
