All year long people have said the Warriors are the best team in the NBA, and even without Durant many “experts” continue to say the Warriors are the best team in the NBA, which has me super confused.
Yes, the Warriors are great, and arguably the best, but why are the Cavaliers so often dismissed as a clear and distant second? I think we’re forgetting the history of these matchups and we’re underestimating the dominance of Lebron James.
In the 2015 NBA finals without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, Lebron James put up a fight against a healthy and full Warriors roster. In that series Lebron did everything but win while averaging 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists while playing a debilitating 45.8 minutes per game. And the argument could be made that the Cavaliers would have won with the assistance of Love and Kyrie complimenting Lebron’s stellar play. Hell, look at what Kyrie did in 2016 for proof.
Additionally, everyone seems to forget the Cavs did beat the Warriors in the 2016 finals…Yeah, member that series in which the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead and Curry was tossed around like a rag doll? The same series in which Kyrie played lights out and stuck a dagger in the hearts of Warriors fans… I member. I also member Kevin Love playing a great game 7 and the Cavs locking down the Warriors offense continuously. You member?
As a result of last season, and 2015, it’s important to realize the Cavs have the Warriors number in the big games. Besides, the Warriors depth isn’t close to last year and they still miss a big man to protect the rim against Lebron James. Which is a problem since we all saw what happened during last years finals when Bogut went out and Lebron made a living in the lane. (Bogut is also with the Cavs now, HA) On top of that, Lebron has proven he can handle Curry and KD in previous finals appearances…
Sure the Warriors are good but I don’t think people are giving the Cavs and Lebron enough credit. Then again maybe it’s perfect for Lebron and the underdog city of Cleveland. AKA: City of Champions
- Except the Indians blowing a 3-1 lead as well.
